Silk Dyed Eggs

Sometimes I don’t feel like the most awesome mom in the world.

Life gets in the way.

Grown up things.

And then…..I snap out of it. And remember, that the one, the most important job I have on this entire earth.

Is him.

So we got back to it today. We made silk dyed easter eggs.

The first thing we did was head to the thrift shop to get some old silk ties and scarves.

My first job out of college was working for the Goodwill Industries of Colorado Springs. In the accounting department.  It was a fantastic experience.  It made me appreciate everything I had every day. It made me appreciate my mental stability. My greatsest memory of that job was the  friend  I made that didn’t remember my name…every, single, day. He would introduce himself to me every day and I was getting my hot tea in the morning.  And I would pretend like I didn’t know him.  It was a great first job.

So I’m a little partial to Goodwill.

I wanted to be able to use these eggs for decoration, so yesterday, I blew these out. It’s STINKING hard, but if you make the holes big enough, it works just perfect.

If you have never done this. Take a tack. Punch, carefully, a hole in each end of the egg. Blow from the rounded side of the egg. It’s digusting, and I had terrible flashbacks of salmonella, but I survived it once……. so it was all good.

Then we wrapped the eggs in pieces of the scarves and ties. Put them in boiling water with about 1/2 cup of vinegar and let them boil for about 20 minutes. They didn’t turn out exactly as planned… but I still really like them!!!

  • They look amazing! I’ve kept marking this as ‘unread’ all week, because I wanted to leave a proper comment. This is such a cool idea! Definitely some of the coolest eggs I’ve seen. Lovely!
