Favorite Things: Getting the Tree

There are normally two times during the year I have to wear ski pants and long underwear.

One is skiing.

The other is hunting for a Christmas Tree.

Both are dangerous sports for me. There are certain people that like to follow me around in the snow and take pictures of me when I happen to face plant at the most obscure time of the trip.  Normally in a thigh high pile of snow. With a camera backpack on. Normally unsuccessfully being able to get up on my own. But whatever. It’s cool. I’m comfortable with my awkward clumsiness.

I’ll be happy to report. I did not have to wipe my face of cold snow once this year.

AND we found our tree within the frst 10 minutes of hiking.

This was only after the hour long ordeal of watching the boys labor to get the old blue truck  unstuck from the side of a rock cliff of which we slid into backwards going down the mountian. (And one of the boys doing the aformentioned pushing was my brother-in-law, and if you saw his brooding muscles you would be smiling to yourself right now as well. Sorry other brother… you know it’s true. )

There is a reason we adore the Griswolds so much….we are them.  These are our adventures.

I love on Christmas tree day, after all the ordeals are over and we’re chilled to the bone but happy to be alive, we stop eat at little restaraunts with people who are happy to have you there and welcome you into their little home in the woods. (which by the way… the green chili at this one is AMAZING!!! and the pizza isn’t too shabby either.)

And then, I go home and get all the lights on. And the tree becomes something beautiful and magical.  And it is covered with things we’ve brought home from all of our travels and adventures. And is full of amazing memories.  And when I squint my eyes and look at the lights…. they blurr. I loved to do that when I was a kid. I loved to make them blurr together.  I also love that my Christmas tree is next to a bed….I get to fall asleep next to it.

And my baby admires it too. I wonder if he squints at it too? Probably…
