I never really knew I was a fire pit person.
But I built one on Saturday morning before the shortest snow blizzard in history hit.
My house has an infinite number of things that needs work on. It’s one hundred years old (I say that a lot) Especially outside. But in the last few weeks we have knocked several of them off the list. I needed a seating area on the back patio. I have the grove where the picnic table is, but that is about it for seating. I wanted a bit more (because, inevitably people are waiting on food, and sitting in the grass sometimes isn’t all that fun.) So I found some furniture with red cushions to match the roof and doors.(They needs more pillows…yeah I’m one of those pillow people) and then it needed something in the middle. The set came with a table, but I didn’t really want that in the middle.
We recently had two very large trees torn down (they were dead, please tree lovers, don’t hate) and we have quite a bit of fire wood. Well, we have a pellet stove inside, so we decided that a fire pit would be perfect. A removable fire pit. Cementing something down was a little too permanent for me. I tend to change my mind about things a couple years down the road. Where they should go. What color they should be. I don’t get too attached to furnishings. (Except the dino dudes….I become heart broken when he wants to change something. “what, you want to get rid of the Elmo sticker on the desk you put there to be defiant of me, but you love Elmo!)
So, the fire pit will not be mortared or glued. It’s made of stone (32 of them) and it’s not going anywhere. It’s not perfect, and I think I need to pull it apart to set the grate down a bit more (which I just bought at Target and set on top of the brick) It will be perfect for hot dogs, marshmallows and late nights with glasses of wine!!!
Love it! I need to join you for a glass of wine sometime.
I know that you have no clue who I am, but you took pictures of my good friend Karissa and her family! I look at your blog everyday and even though you dont know me I feel like I know you. I love all of your ideas and amazing pictures! If you ever come by Thermopolis and you want to take some pictures I would be honored to have you take them! Thanks for your time! XOXO Lacy
