The Change

Someone once explained the natural process of life and death to me through the life and journey of a butterfly. It was a story so sweet and so special.

The last few weeks I have witnessed something truly amazing.

I got to witness the life and journey of a butterfly. More than one actually.

They came to my son as caterpillars. In the mail. (you can do this on your own, but this was something my son bought in a store with a gift certificate and sent off for the caterpillars)

They crawled around for about 3 days, and then overnight….there were cacoons.

And then…over another few days they hung there. They would wiggle if you got close.

And then

They were butterflies. Beautiful butterflies. Colorful. Ready to fly as soon as they emerged.

It was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. Truly miraculous.

Today, on the day we celebrate mother earth…we set them free.

They were gone in a flash.

Gone with the breeze.

Be good to the earth…it has to last us a long time. And don’t take life for granted, it’s too beautiful for that.
