The Friendly Skies Are Not Always United

We waited until my little Dino Dude was a little bit older to fly. We wanted it to be a memorable experience, one that he would truly remember himself instead of a story we told him about.

It was that. Very Memorable.

My son’s first flight was not smooth …so to say. If any of you know my family, you also know, we are a little hard to corral.  Like the saying, it’s like herding cats. I am not a great cat herder, and am normally irritated at the felines. We arrived to the airport two hours early and the lines for check in and security were so long that we ended up arriving to our gate 9 minutes before our flight. We were denied access, doors were slammed in our face  by a mean mean woman and we watched the stand-bys take our spots and load. My son broke down into horrible tears fearing he was never going to fly the friendly skies or be able to do his very important ring bearing job at our final destination.

It was traumatic for all of us.

And the checker -inner lady was so mean to us that I was finding a customer service contact within minutes to tell them what I thought. (I am not a customer service contacter)

By some miracle of God were put on another flight (5 seats are hard to come by whilst flying standby, on a holiday weekend and we did not take any seats that people were rushing to get to as the flight was an hour late.) We rode on a 3 seater and the Dino dude got to go into the cockpit right away. Along with being able to walk to the runway to board (it was all very retro), it was a pretty perfect first time experience.  I felt a little superstar-ish.   Since he was the only kiddo on the plane the pilot asked him to come into the cockpit again after we landed and he got to turn the plane off.

Awesome.

Memorable.
