We spent a weekend in steamboat and this year, instead of skiing, I convinced the entire family to go dog sledding. Even the grandparents. And another friend who had it on her list as well.
It was of course, not quite what I expected. BUT… it was amazing. There were 120 dogs that lived and worked at Grizzle T’s. They were not pure bred husky’s, which is why they live so much longer than the normal sled dog. They had a couple dogs that were 18 and still running. The dogs were all very very sweet. And very very lovey. And they LOVED what they were doing.
We got to drive the dogs, after a short, 10 minute introduction to the sled, which was incredibly primitive. There was a metal brake that most of us could get the dogs to stop with. We leaned and swayed through the corners. The dogs would grab a bit of snow to eat along the way.
The Easterns that were along with us, didn’t have quite as easy of a time. One of the women hit a bump and came flying off her sled. (I personally don’t think she was holding on like she should be) She was inches away from being hit by two other sets of dogs and sleds. (20 dogs!)
When you ride, you can be strapped in like a burrito, or have your hands free to freeze, which is what I chose to in order to take photos. The Dino Dude got to drive for a little while, and he did a knock out job of using the metal brake. He loved it.
Later that night we went to see the ice castles. Completely man made and growing every day. They were amazing!!! Just beautiful
And then the next morning, we took a drive around to see the sights of Steamboat. We hiked up to Fish Creek Falls. They were of course frozen over, but it was a beautiful walk none-the-less. We played in the snow and watched hot air balloons pas by. All in all, it was an awesome trip.
