Midsummer’s Garden

Gardening never used to be my thing.

It was my mom’s thing.

Sunbathing with a good book was my thing. At least when I wasn’t painting houses for spare cash.

And then I grew up.

And bought a house. and planted a garden.

I found out, I’m not too shabby at gardening.

And then I bought another house and planted a bigger garden.

And then, bought another house and planted an even bigger garden…..I think the next step is a farm.

We all work pretty hard on the outside premises, keeping it up is work, but very gratifying. We have a HORRIBLE problem keeping weeds out, so we used black paper under the parts we weren’t planting in, and it’s helped a ton. I think next year, we might use newspaper around the plants when they come in. Once again, it’s full of squash. Lettuce. Cabbage. Beets. Potatoes. Cucumbers. Beans. Peas. And ONE tiny corn.   The tomato houses are doing soooo well, and I got my first red one this week.  I’m almost out of dilly beans, and hot pickles (which, if you let the set in their jars for about 9 months, they get so much hotter!), so I’m ready for all of this to come in and be ready to pick!!

All the red flowers are blooming everywhere (we have a red roof on the house and all the outbuildings, so I like to match most of the plants to that, and I love it!)

I love summer… just love it.
