The Next Generation

It’s surreal when you see kids go from middle schoolers to adulthood. In the blink of an eye.

It’s surreal for them to be in charge of what’s going on in their life, making big decisions, making plans… booking appointments with me.

But for some reason… it’s these “kids” that hear the message, often times more than I realize. Sometimes more often than people my own age.

“Take pictures with your parents!”

And then…..

I get to see them in a different light. I get to experience them in a different way. And for that I am FOREVER going to be grateful for what I do. Taking pictures is only a tiny part of my job.  Making the experience fun and not so painful to be in front of the camera (because I’m not naive enough to think it’s easy for anyone, no matter how confident you are.) And these kids… trust me enough to make new memories.

These are “my” kids…. that are now grown adults.

Fighting fires and going to college and grad school (by the way, how did you get old enough to be in Grad School?!)

The next generation. A different generation. There are things I have to learn about them and there are things they have to learn about me. But in all honesty… I love them and all the learning that comes with them! And I love that my sessions end in hugs and “please be goods” and “drive safes” because that’s truly how I feel.

Even though they are grown… they are still “my kids.”
