Gingerbread is brand spanking new to me. I mean… until this year I have never made it. And now… I’m hooked. It’s seriously one of the easiest things to do in the whole wide world.
I’m love simple things. Simplicity that makes a statement. So, when I saw this, I thought…. “well hell, I can do that!” So I did. We decorated them together. I traced the shapes of the houses on plain white paper and then just cut around them and baked them. We had enough left over for a few ornaments and tags and such. I wasn’t looking for perfect. I was looking for simple and awesome. And I love the way it turned out.
The recipe I used for the gingerbread is as follows:
Ingredients :
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup light molasses or dark corn syrup
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups flouf
- 2 tablespoons water
Mix the sugar and the butter. Then add the rest. Mix until dough forms. I did not refrigerate and it turned out fine (I did it twice with the same results) cut out shapes and bake for about 10 minutes. Let cool and then decorate.
Give it a try, it’s not as hard as it looks!!!
That gingerbread village is amazing!
