Scraps of Paper

There comes a time in your kiddos little life that his cute little decorated toddler room isn’t working for them anymore.  It doesn’t reflect their personality because when you decorated it, you didn’t really know what their personality was going to be.  I never had a “baby theme” for my little one.  Just little boy colors.

And then…..came the dinosaurs. THOUSANDS of them. THOUSANDS of books. EVERYTHING dinosaur. He’s kind of freaky really. It’s a stage going on three years now and he’s only five. He really wants to be a paleontologist and is counting the days until he’s 7 and can go on a real dino dig.  We have to drag him away from complete strangers who he will corner and talk to about them for as long as we let him.  He’s a talker.

So… for now we are trying to keep it clean in there.  His room. I don’t know if I’m ready for posters (which will have to be framed here…my walls are 100 years old and tape doesn’t cut it. ) of man eating creatures.  I try to engage him as much as possible. He’s one of those kids that require your engagement A LOT. He has soooo many questions all the time and constantly wants to share what he’s learned with you and if you don’t remember it for the next conversation…well let’s say, you have to retain what he tells you.

When he was born something came back to life in me. Creativity. It had been put on the back burner since the beginning of college when I chose to get a finance and economics degree instead of going to art school.  When he came along….it came back. And I’m constantly tying to do fun things with him. This time it was with a 20×40 canvas (which are cheap these days, you can pick them up for half price almost every weekend at one of the craft stores, Michael’s offers a 40% off coupon every week that you can print off)  and torn paper and mod podge. Seriously easy. I just tried to draw the dinosaur and he filled it in. It took forever, but we have forever when it’s snowing outside.

And he loves it.

And it matches his room.

His new favorite song. Mine actually too.

Song: Grenade, Bruno Mars
