The 7th Epiphany

It’s hard not to get emotional on the 6th of January.

Epiphany.

The day the wise men visited.

Was the same day my wise man was born.

And yes, he was born wise.  Almost anyone who meets him comments on his demeanor as an older person. The way he talks, the way he presents himself. His hand movements.  He was born wise.

Parenting is always surprising. There is no manual. The only way to do it…..is to wing it. At least that’s what I’ve found. I learned early on to avoid books, as there is always a book to tell you what to do, but nothing in that book to tell you what to do with your child.  They are all one of a kind.  They all have a special magic.

The magic of childhood.

I watched as my son held a little girls’  hand today. To help her learn without fear. Telling her she was doing a great job and not to be afraid. Because he’s her friend.  It was sweet. And I saw, just a glimpse of what he will be like as an older man. I loved that and hated that all at the same time.

He’s been under the weather, hardly himself, but the party made him happy. Made me happy too. I love skating. It was a party for both of us, he just didn’t know it.

Just because he likes it today.
