A Heart of Dough

It is that time of the year already.

Are you in the mood for it.

The mood for love?

Can you believe it? We’re already nearly  a month into the new year and it is time to start celebrating love.

It’s a holiday that has grown on me since I had a child. I don’t want him to grow up cynical and calloused toward this holiday. I want to show him that it can be…for a better word, lovely. And special.  And simple. That’s it’s not always about chocolates and roses. It’s about everyday.

I will show you soon how I managed the bokeh hearts below, but for now I will share a project.

I love to decorate for the holidays. But decorate simply. With homemade things. Specialties here and there.

The Dino Dude and I made salt dough hearts, poked holes in them with straws (his most favorite part!) and then strung them over the fire place. Simple. Perfect. And white.

For the dough simply mix 2 cups flour. 1 cup salt and 1 cup (plus a little here and there) of water.  You should be able to cut it like cookies.  Poke holes in the top with straws. Bake at 250 degrees for about 40 -50 minutes. Keep and eye on them so they don’t burn.
