The Long Weekend

We had a long 4th of July weekend this year. Spent the actual day of the 4th, just at home with family and watched fireworks with our favorite Italians.

The next day we made the trek south to Breckenridge.

Now, Colorado, to some may seem all dreamy and mountain-y and wonderful… but I can tell you from experience, it is not a calm place to be over any holiday. The mountain roads turn into some sort of race track for Subarus and Mercedes and Cadillacs,  all with bike and ski racks attached to the top. To a person who lives a rather quiet existence, just a half hour away, it gets a little overwhelming.  But we made it to our destination with the grandparents, and passed out immediately. Thank goodness for the plush accommodations and the bottle of wine waiting for me in the fridge.   We spent the next day making our way back down the mountain a little way to Central City, my husband and I, to spend the day gambling. Something, probably not many know, I love doing. Since we didn’t strike it rich we came back and hiked in the mountains above Breck and then spent a good share of money supporting the local economy.  It really is beautiful there and I’m happy to visit… but as always, happy to come home to my own pillow.
