There aren’t many colored trees left, but I found a beautiful one the other day and decided I had to have those leaves. I seem to collect the leaves of fall, but then they wither and fade when I bring them home. So I found a way to preserve them. If only for the season. So since the wind is blowing like a tornado outside and has been for a few days (I have an ear ache to prove it.), we drove up to this tree along the sidewalk, the dino dude hopped out and plucked a few perfect leaves for us to use. We drove around all over the older part of town looking for more (that’s where most of the perfect trees are.) It was like Christmas light looking, only we were drinking pumpkin drinks instead of hot chocolate, and jumping in and out of the car to get the best leaves (by the way, the little dude decided that a vanilla frappuccino with a pump of pumpkin spice is the most magnificent drink on earth right now.)
When we got home we melted some paraffin wax (you can find it in the canning section at the store) and dipped our leaves in. We rigged up a contraption to let them dry, but it only takes about a minute for them to dry, so that went pretty quickly. Then I glued them to some twine. And then we wrote on the paper we made for Earth day earlier this year some things we are grateful for, and will leave the paper for people to tear and use and add to it as the season progresses. Hopefully it will be full of beautiful thanks in the next few weeks.
