I am keenly aware of everything I have been blessed with. I am fully aware of the wonderfulness that surrounds me. And honestly, I thank God every day for what I have. I know that I am a very lucky person. So, with the upcoming holiday, a day we are supposed to take time from our busy lives, and cook until our hands are tired and our bellies are full and our hearts are content, a separate day for thankfulness, I’d like to take a few days to say thank you for everything else before I get busy in the kitchen (which still needs its ceiling finished!)
Today, I’m thankful for a creative mind and hand. As I look around this old house, it’s full of memories of things I have done or made, or am working on. In the first couple of houses I owned, I made everything. Curtains, pillows, all kinds of everything. Because that’s what we could afford. My tastes have changed drastically over the years and I don’t make as much anymore, (as far as home furnishing goes) but during the holidays, I pull out things out that I have saved over the years. Like the pillows from the year I decided to try my hand at quilting (I am not a quilter. I just don’t have the patience for it) I am thankful the ideas and eyes to see things before they come to life. The flowers and pinecones were something I put together this past weekend. There will be more flowers added later next week (Poppy’s, I just couldn’t add what you sent me, they were beautiful all by themselves!) but I adore the birch bark pots (I got them here for $4 a piece.) I used things from my front yard, I glued sticks to pine cones, and cut down ornamental grass that will be ruined with the snow soon. I always tell my son, that it’s better to fill the world with things you created than to destroy it and tear it apart. Especially if you make it with a loving heart.
