So at the end of January we normally take a weekend to celebrate everyone’s Birthday down south in one of the mountain towns. This year we chose Estes Park. We were missing one family member but we went anyway. So up the mountain we wound our way. The flood devastation is still pretty very much apparent in the whole area. It felt good to support the community that is still trying to recover. There was a motel sign in town, I wish I would have taken a photo, but it said “Here’s to 2014: No fires, no floods.” Here’s to that.
There wasn’t much snow there, so my idea of snowshoeing or cross country skiing was out the window. As was my little man’s idea of sledding. However shopping was still in. So all was good in the world.
Brady and I got up early in the morning to grab some coffee (my early morning antics in the mountains are always shared with my husband, he needs to know if the animals are out and about. And they were!!!) We found a huge herd of elk just hanging out near a mountain town neighborhood. So we went back and grabbed the family in search of more. And we found them. HUGE bucks. HUGE. And then by 8 in the morning they were gone. So it just goes to show….getting up early pays off sometimes. The early bird gets the worm! We also saw a ton of deer, coyotes and a bobcat. Kind of awesome! No worries, I didn’t leave the car the get any of the photos either… getting stabbed by an elk antler isn’t really high on my list.
